$85,150 Santa Anita Pick 6 Carryover – Feb 7th
Sunday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes a carryover of more than $85k. The feature race is the Grade 2 San Antonio for 4yo’s and up traveling nine furlongs on the Pro-Ride surface. Richard’s Kid is the 5-2 morning line choice, and he is using this as a prep for the Dubai World Cup. Partly cloudy skies are expected with a high temperature of 62. My suggested tickets can be found at the bottom of this post following analysis.
Pick 6 blog has been growing in popularity on a daily basis, and I would like to thank everyone for making this site a success. I will continue to feature the Southern California Pick 6, along with select carryovers from across the country.
Degree of Difficulty: Competitive. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Sunday pick six from Santa Anita rates a 7.
Possible Singles: Puff This (3rd race), On The Verge (6th race), Letsgetitright (8th race)
Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Sunday, February 7, 2010
Santa Anita Race 3 (Mcl-25k, f&m 4up, 5.5f) #1 Puff This (3-1) dueled and weakened in turf sprint bow. Inside speed threat is out of a 22% 2nd timer outfit (Puype). #9 Franjelica (4-1) drops, switches surfaces, and dons the hood off the shelf. Strong bullet on Jan 30th. #5 Humble Maggie Go (5-2) is working well for bow, and Hollendorfer is 22% with debut maiden claimers. #10 Meadow Lake Queen (5-1) adds blinkers, and today’s shorter trip helps. Espinoza strings along.
Santa Anita Race 4 (Clm-25k, 3yo fil, 6f) #4 Meetyouatgrouions (4-1) comes in fresh for Terry Knight, and Rosario is in the irons. Graduated in a SoCal synthetic sprint and will be finishing. #6 Cenizo (9-2) was a solid stalk and pounce maiden winner here last out, and Canani is 30% with recent graduates trying winners for the first time. Projects another nice trip under Gomez. #8 Part Time Luck (6-1) is a Turf Paradise transplant, and Mullins is 23% with new additions. Adds lasix and Bejarano.
Santa Anita Race 5 (MSW, 3yo fil, 6f) #2 S C Song Girl (3-1) must overcome inside post, but the $70k Keeneland sales grad is working lights out for this and could be up to the task. Hails from recently hot Machowsky barn, and he’s 18% debut MSW. #3 Merrytagio (12-1) ran into Hot Dixie Chick in her Churchill bow. Hess has her now, and she could return running (blinkers on) with Gomez in the irons. #8 Ms Margaritaville (6-1) chased an above par pace in extended sprint bow. Bejarano sticks.
Santa Anita Race 6 (Str-Hcp, 4up, 8f) #7 On The Verge (8-1) reunites with winning pilot Gomez, and he was aboard for all three of his synthetic tallies. Profitable low profile barn 50% (8-race sample) 3rd off the shelf outfit. Rarely works fast, but he sports a quick 4f bullet for this. #9 Spurrier (5-2) is an obvious threat after rallying for the place in the San Pasqual.
Santa Anita Race 7 (Grade 2 San Antonio, 4up, 9f) #10 Nownownow (6-1) was working well for his San Pasqual comeback, and he rallied nicely to land the show in first start in 9+ months. He continues to train forwardly and could easily show more today. Won a grade two here last winter. #4 Philatelist (10-1) is an overseas transplant exiting a sharp synthetic tally. Bejarano hops aboard for Ascanio, and the recently hot jock is 2 for 3 with this outfit. Surprise package. #8 Richard’s Kid (5-2) is working well for his first start since the BC Classic, but note that he is using this as a prep for the Dubai World Cup. Figures to sit back and make a late run under Gomez.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Mcl-32k, 3yo, 6.5f) #3 Letsgetitright (4-1) finished a solid 3rd in Hollywood bow, and he’s another live 2nd timer for Puype. #6 Charmed One (8-1) missed the show by less than a length from post 10 in local bow. Could easily improve for Cerin. #10 Move On Up (8-5) has hit the board in both career outings, and he’s a low odds contender 2nd off the shelf for Canani.

The Saturday (Feb 6th) program at Santa Anita Park was called off due to rain and poor drainage. The Pro-Ride surface continues to be a problem for track management. Hopefully they will be back in action on Sunday. Note that my Feb 7th pick six analysis will be posted tomorrow.

There is a 70% chance of showers with a high temperature of 62. My suggested tickets can be found at the bottom of this post following analysis.
Pick 6 blog has been growing in popularity on a daily basis, and I would like to thank everyone for making this site a success. I will continue to feature the Southern California Pick 6, along with select carryovers from across the country.

Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Saturday, February 6, 2010
Santa Anita Race 5 (Wishing Well Hcp, f&m 4up, 6.5T) #8 Skedee (8-1) is now under the care of Bruce Jackson, and she uncorked a strong local bullet on Feb 1st. Loves the turf and might enjoy the downhill course. #9 Empressive Lady (9-2) tracked an above par pace in a solid show finish here last out. Fractions figure to be on the tepid side today, and the daughter of Empire Maker has finally found consistency. Big chance to find the winners’ circle under Espinoza. #7 Dance To My Tune (8-1) was training well prior to her first start for new barn (Hollendrofer), and she was competitive despite 0 for 12 turf record. She’s a 4-time synthetic winner and a stretch threat under Bejarano, especially if this race is transferred.
Santa Anita Race 6 (Clm-12.5/2L, 4up, 8.5f) #3 Figeac (5-2) drops, switches surfaces, changes barns, and stretches back out. Tyler Baze climbs aboard the early-pressing threat. #9 Boo Too (3-1) was nosed on the drop and surface switch last time. Tries a route today. #4 Outside Shot (8-1) owns tactical speed and is proven around two turns.
Santa Anita Race 7 (MSW, 3yo, 6f) #2 Screaming Destiny (8-1) hails from recently hot Harty barn, and Bejarano hops aboard. Was out for the experience in local bow, and a big forward move could be forthcoming. Working well for this. #1 Imperial Pride (3-1) was highly regarded in local bow, and he ran well for poor debut outfit. 15% 2nd timer barn (Hess) saddled two winners yesterday.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Grade 2 Robert Lewis, 3yo, 8.5f) Plenty of promise in this event. #2 Dave In Dixie (3-1) created lots of buzz following sharp Del Mar bow. He was 4-1 versus Lookin At Lucky in his 2nd career outing, and he was only beaten a couple of lengths when thrown to the wolves that day. He’s training well for return, and the $310k Keeneland sales grad will be finishing under Rosario. #6 American Lion (5-2) was part of my original Derby Top 10 post on Nov 15th, and the same can be said for my top. Talented colt should improve over a route of ground and projects a stalking trip today. #3 Tiz Chrome (2-1) has done nothing wrong in a pair of sharp sprint tallies to begin career. Bred to route and working well for this. Obvious contender for Baffert.
Santa Anita Race 9 (Grade 2 Strub, 4yo, 9f) #2 Rendezvous (8-1) got no pace help in San Fernando, and he was a solid 3rd off the shelf that day. Added real estate helps, and Bejarano sticks. #9 Misremembered (8-5) rallied for the place in the Malibu, and that 7f event was a bit sharp for the distance type. Working well and should be set for best. #1 Eagle Poise (3-1) is a Woodbine invader exiting six straight exacta finishes. Versatile sort seems best in longer events.
Santa Anita Race 10 (Mcl-32k, 3yo fil, 5.5f) #5 Lana’s Lovely (3-1) earned above par speed rating in a local 6.5f event last time. Barn a profitable 17% blinkers on, and nothing wrong with Rosario hopping aboard. She’s single material on both tickets.

Santa Anita Recap – Feb 5th
No surprise in the Friday opener as Guerrero Negro ($3.60) pulled off an easy wire job for Santiago Reyes/Paco Gonzalez.
A wire job double with A Royal Tizzy ($5.40) going all the way in the 2nd for Bejarano/Hess.
Pick 6 time, and Budget Ticket single Lady Alex ($4) coasted home under Bejarano. John Sadler was the winning conditioner.
Top pick Big Jay settled for the place in the 4th behind sharp stalking winner Afleet Magic ($8.20) Talamo booted home the winner for Bob Hess Jr.
Top pick Bilo scratched, and my remaining contenders ran 3-4 as Get Off The Sugar ($34.20) held on for the wire job upset. Martin Garcia booted home the Jorge Alcala runner.
A 3-4-5 finish for my contenders in the 6th. Boulder Creek ($11.40) was the stalk and pounce winner for Victor Espinoza-Craig Dollase.
Extended sprint feature, and I was 1-2 with Mobilized ($9.60) running down Baffert chalk Total Bull. Another winner for Bejarano, and Gary Mandella saddled the son of Soul of the Matter.
Big Ticket single Delago had a troubled journey, and my 2nd choice Candy Coat ($11.80) picked up the slack. Amador rode the Sise trainee. Ended up with 3 wins, 2 2nds and a 3rd. No winning tickets, so more than $85k carries into the Saturday program.

Santa Anita Pick 6 – Feb 5th
Friday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes a pair of allowance races. There is a 70% chance of rain with a high temperature of 61. The 3rd race is scheduled for the turf but could be moved to the Pro-Ride surface. Lady Alex looms a solid fav to kick off the sequence regardless of footing.
Degree of Difficulty: Moderate. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Friday pick six from Santa Anita rates a 5.
Possible Singles: Lady Alex (3rd race), Bilo (5th race), Delago (8th race)
Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Friday, February 5, 2010
Santa Anita Race 3 (Alw-1x, f&m 4up, 8T) #4 Lady Alex (2-1) has been part of exacta in 6 straight, and she handles turf and synthetic. #7 Woman Warrior (3-1) also handles any footing, and she’s a prominent throughout threat on either surface.
Santa Anita Race 4 (Mcl-25k, 4up, 8.5f) #7 Big Jay (3-1) hails from the hot Cerin barn, and he’s a profitable 20% first route. A repeat of his solid Oct 24th extended sprint effort would put him squarely in the mix. #3 Licoricewhip (5-2) ran well from outside post in a local route last time.
Santa Anita Race 5 (Clm-8k, 4up, 6f) #7 Bilo (7-5) drops off the shelf for Marty Jones, and he figures all over an expected tepid early pace. Reunites with winning pilot Talamo. #4 Abalanche (7-2) ran well off the shelf here in Oct. Barn enjoying fine meet, and Espinoza/Becerra 43% together recently. #5 Swiss Ski (3-1) raced wide off the shelf last time. Best efforts put him in the mix.
Santa Anita Race 6 (MSW, 3yo, 8.5f) #10 Matamor (8-1) got no pace help in a similar route across town. Attracts Bejarano and has a chance to move forward in 3rd lifetime start. #11 Ziggy’s Stardust (7-2) earned triple digit speed rating in local sprint last time, and place finisher came back to graduate. Bred to route. #5 Brace Yourselves (5-1) disappointed over a route of ground last time. Showed some talent in two previous outings and deserves another chance. Aggressive handling could be in the cards.
Santa Anita Race 7 (Alw-1x, 4up, 7f) #2 Mobilized (8-1) is best in synthetic sprints, and he’s capable of uncorking strong triple digit late pace figs. Bejarano strings along. #8 Total Bull (8-5) fired in both outings, and he’s an obvious early-pressing threat 2nd off the shelf for Gomez/Baffert. Bullet work for this. #7 Fantasy Free (6-1) earned best last race speed rating at 6.5f here on Jan 23rd.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Mcl-25k, 4up, 7f) #13 Delago (4-1) ran well at this distance off the shelf across town, and he could not handle a route of ground in regression race last time. Back in preferred sprint 3rd off the shelf, and Espinoza strings along. #1 Tale The Truth (7-2) ran well off a lengthy layoff last time. Inside speed threat must avoid a bounce. #14 Candy Coat (5-1) hails from a 25% lengthy layoff barn, and he showed some ability in a trio of starts last year.
Friday Pick 6 Tickets
Budget Play: $2 Pick Six 4/3-7/7/10-11/2-7-8/1-13-14 ($72)
The Big Ticket: $2 Pick Six 4-7/3-7/4-5-7/5-10-11/2-7-8/13 ($216)

Santa Anita Recap – Feb 4th
Bad Boy ($6) rallied to nab the Thursday extended sprint opener for Flores/Canani.
Cozi Rosie ($5.40) rallied from off the pace and looked good doing it in her 1st start versus winners. Mike Smith booted home the Sadler trainee, and she might shoot for the Santa Anita Oaks next.
Downhill sprint to begin the pick six, and my top High Note scratched. That left me with Princess Suances ($6), and she sat the right stalking trip for Gomez/Vienna.
Gilligan ($4.20) necked my value top Frank And The Goat in the 4th. Nice ride by Talamo aboard the Mel Stute trainee.
No dice in the 5th as I was 3-4 behind Sarabella Mia ($8) and Hostile Reaction. My top Secret Oath rallied for the show and was not helped by a :24.02 opening quarter.
Warren’s Jitterbug ($4.40) had a bad case of seconditis, but not today as the Jorge Gutierrez trainee graduated under Bejarano in 9th career start.
I loved Snowmaster ($11.80) in the feature, and he made my day a profitable one with a sharp late running tally under Bejarano. Graham Motion saddled the winner. The longer the better for this one.
Upset in the finale as Jorge Gutierrez firster Warrens Bigthunder ($48.20) scored under Amador. Only got a pair home today with a 2nd and two 3rds.

Santa Anita Pick 6 – Feb 4th
Thursday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes a pair of turf races. The first is a downhill sprint, and High Note could sit the right trip behind honest splits. The other turfer is a flat mile special weight event, and Warren’s Jitterbug looms a beatable fav with six runner-up finishes from eight tries. Cloudy skies are expected with a high temperature of 66. My suggested tickets can be found at the bottom of this post following analysis.
Pick 6 blog has been growing in popularity on a daily basis, and I would like to thank everyone for making this site a success. I will continue to feature the Southern California Pick 6, along with select carryovers from across the country.
Degree of Difficulty: Moderate. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Thursday pick six from Santa Anita rates a 5.
Possible Singles: High Note (3rd race), Frank and the Goat (4th race), Snowmaster (7th race)
Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Thursday, February 4, 2010
Santa Anita Race 3 (OC-25/1x, CA-bred f&m 4up, 6.5T) #5 High Note (6-1) was headed in lone downhill try. Hendricks enjoying fine meet and shows a profit with this type of layoff runner. Gets pace to chase as well. #1 Princess Suances (7-2) has fired in four straight and cuts back in distance. Ground saving stalking trip expected.
Santa Anita Race 4 (Str-Alw, 3yo, 8.5f) #2 Frank and the Goat (9-2) removes the hood and reunites with winning pilot Espinoza. Bullet work for this, and he was a troubled 4th in a local route last time. #6 Worth A Punt (5-2) was heavily backed off the shelf and did not disappoint last out. Barn 40% with recent graduates trying winners for the first time.
Santa Anita Race 5 (Mcl-25k, f&m 4up, 7f) #5 Secret Oath (4-1) finished a troubled 7th in Hollywood bow, and place/show finishers both came back to win. Marty Jones enjoying fine meet. #1 Heavy Kitty (6-1) receives a rider upgrade and hails from a 26% 2nd timer outfit. Tab for improvement. #2 Teenage Dancer (6-5) drops into a maiden claimer for the first time for Carla Gaines.
Santa Anita Race 6 (MSW, 3yo fil, 8T) #7 Maria’s Dane (9-2) attracts Espinoza 3rd off the shelf, and she should be all set for her best in this spot. #8 Empire Spring (3-1) was just better than my top last time, and she’s also 3rd off the shelf. Aforementioned duo are above par finishers. #3 Noverre’s Vision (6-1) should get a jump on my top pair and figures to fire 2nd route and 3rd start overall.
Santa Anita Race 7 (OC-40/1x, 4up, 10f) #8 Snowmaster (7-2) got no pace help from outside post in a similar 8.5f event last time. Three best races at nine panels, and he should relish this distance. Along in time under Bejarano. #3 Never (5-2) had a dream inside stalking trip as my top last time, but he could not get past the pacesetter in same race my top exits. He goes 3rd off the shelf for 35% Gomez/Baffert team. #6 Tamborim (3-1) ran into The Usual Q. T. in last two graded turf outings. Versatile sort seems better on the sod but has won on synthetic before.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Mcl-32k, 3yo, 6f) #3 Manofgold (8-1) hails from a hot barn and gets in light with Santiago Reyes. Cerin saddled a debut winner yesterday. #5 Sonofablur (9-5) found trouble in both starts versus better. Bejarano/O’Neill 38% together, and drop could do the trick.
Thursday Pick 6 Tickets
Budget Play: $2 Pick Six 1-5/2/1-2-5/3-7-8/8/3-5 ($72)

Santa Anita Recap – Feb 3rd
First timer Blake ($19) pulled off a sharp wire job to kick off the Wednesday program. Bejarano booted home the Cerin trainee.
Consistent synthetic performer Souvenir Slew ($15.60) nabbed the 2nd for Espinoza/Craig Lewis.
Nice start to the pick six as a pair of my contenders battled for top honors. Victor’s Cry ($18) was up to beat my perfect trip top Cherokee Heaven. Gomez booted home the Eoin Harty returnee.
Another exacta finish with Ultra Awesome ($7.80) edging my top Sky Marni. Rafael Bejarano booted home the Tim Yakteen runner.
Missed the 5th as I ran 2-3 behind bet down winner Juliano ($7.20). Danny Sorenson guided home the winner for Jenine Sahadi.
Another place finish as First Queen ($8) outfinished Saint Cindy in the 6th. Rosario rode the winner for Kathy Walsh.
Tough beat in the feature as The Program ($5) nosed stablemate Indian Firewater. Martin Garcia booted home the Baffert trainee.
Had fav Veecu ($4.80) in the finale. Alex Solis rode the winner for Kristin Mulhall. Nice try by my value top My Friend Bernie. Ended up with 3 wins and 3 2nds in today’s sequence.

Wednesday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes a carryover of $126,946. Note that the Super High 5 (8th race) also features a carryover ($57,019). I have included a Super High 5 ticket as well. Partly cloudy skies are expected with a high temperature of 67.
On a scale of 1 to 10, the Wednesday pick six from Santa Anita rates a 5.
Possible Singles: One Man’s Delight (5th race), Acute Velocity (6th race), Indian Firewater (7th race)
Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Wednesday, February 3, 2010
Santa Anita Race 3 (Alw-3x, 4up, 6.5T) #1 Cherokee Heaven (9-2) earned triple digit speed rating in hillside stakes win on Jan 2nd. Barn enjoying fine meet, and he could easily rally for the win under Talamo. I have always liked #3 Get Funky (4-1), and he projects a decent stalking trip under Rosario. Has not won in quite some time, but he’s training forwardly and is a tight fit on class. #4 Victor’s Cry (10-1) drops out of the graded ranks, turns back, and reunites with Gomez. Fresh horse working well for this and will be finishing.
Santa Anita Race 4 (Clm-12.5k, 4yo fil, 6.5f) #2 Sky Marni (5-2) got no pace help versus much better $25k foes last time. Won three straight before last including local $12.5k tally on Nov 8th. #1 Ultra Awesome (3-1) drops a notch below claimed level 2nd off the shelf. Bejarano sticks with early-pressing type.
Santa Anita Race 5 (MSW, CA-bred 4up, 6.5f) #8 One Man’s Delight (5-2) should be sitting on top effort in 3rd lifetime start. Barn 20% turf/synthetic, and he sports three solid local drills since his last. #1 Prince of Gotham (3-1) finished an even 4th in Dec bow across town. Bejarano sticks, and barn a solid 16% with 2nd timers.
Santa Anita Race 6 (Clm-12.5/2L, f&m 4up, 8.5f) #4 Acute Velocity (4-1) earned above par speed rating in local maiden claiming route tally on Jan 13th. Espinoza sticks, and she seems realistically spotted in first start against winners. #6 Saint Cindy (4-1) removes the hood for her new trainer Carava, and nothing wrong with Bejarano taking the call. I liked her last time, and she could go much better today. #5 Soldier Betty (7-2) was nostrilized in a similar local flat mile affair off the shelf last time. Stretch runner graduated at this course/distance.
Santa Anita Race 7 (Alw-1x, 3yo, 8.5f) Competitive five horse field. Baffert has two, and Sadler saddles a pair as well. The longer priced contenders in each barn might be the way to go. #2 Indian Firewater (5-2) has been disappointing in three starts since sharp prominent throughout maiden tally at Del Mar. Might be best out winging, and Gomez could try aggressive tactics in his first route try. Baffert trainee easily sports the best overall pace figs. #3 Get A Grip (9-2) beat fourteen rivals in overseas turf sprint bow. Graduated in a synthetic route 2nd time out, and he makes his US bow for Sadler.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Mcl-32k, 3yo, 8f) #3 My Friend Bernie (6-1) is slowly improving for 29% first route barn. Above average sales purchase should be sitting on a new top 3rd off the shelf. #6 Veecu (8-5) was clearly 2nd best behind a runaway winner last time, but note that he was beaten fav in last pair. Solis/Mulhall winless in last 14 starts together, and barn 6% first route. Owns best last race speed rating, and he’s an underlaid contender. #4 B. I. Guy (8-1) has some upside in his 3rd lifetime start and 2nd tagged outing for 20% maiden claiming outfit. $1 Super High Five 3-4/3-4-6/3-4-5-6/2-3-4-5-6/ALL ($80)
Wednesday Pick 6 Tickets
Budget Play: $2 Pick Six 1-3-4/1-2/8/4/2-3/3-4-6 ($72)

Santa Anita Recap – Jan 31st
Capt. Sparrow ($8.40) overcame a troubled start to tag his four foes in the six furlong opener on Sunday. Joel Rosario booted home the Jack Carava trainee. Spot The Diplomat finished a disappointing 3rd as the fav, and he was claimed by Jeff Mullins.
Good Measure took all the action in the 2nd, but he got caught up in a speed duel and settled for the place behind Land of the Giants ($9.20). Gomez rode the winner for Todd Pletcher.
Poker Dave ($24) went last to first in the 3rd for Bejarano/Truman.
A flat mile on the turf to kick off the pick six, and overseas transplant My Aunt Fanny ($18) closed furiously for the win under Gomez. Sandy Shulman saddled the upset winner.
My contenders ran 1-2-3 in the 5th with Devine Actress ($8.60) proving best under Victor Espinoza. David Hofmans saddled the versatile sort.
Turf win machine Yodelen Dan ($5.40) was clearly best in the grassy 6th for Tyler Baze/Jeff Mullins.
Still in the chase for five after Manhattan Beach ($9.20) rallied for the score under Gomez. Mike Mitchell was the winning conditioner. Patient types definitely best on Pro-Ride today.
Gabby’s Golden Gal ($25.20) sat the right outside stalking trip in a nice tally over my top Proviso in the Grade 1 Santa Monica Handicap. Martin Garcia booted home the Baffert trainee. I thought she was one race away from topping out. Free Flying Soul did all of the inside pace dirty work over a track that wasn’t favoring early speed. Seven panels is not her best distance, buts he sure loves this oval.
Another off the pace type in the finale as Moonskipper ($9.60) rallied for the win under Espinoza. Paddy Gallagher saddled the winner. No perfect tickets today, so Wednesday’s pool gets a $126,946 jump start!
