Jarrod Horak’s Del Mar Pick 6 analysis – Wednesday, September 2, 2009

Del Mar Race 4 (Mcl-50k, 3up, 6f) #1 The Whammer (3-1) drops and switches surfaces, and he has been part of trifecta in all five synthetic sprint special weight starts. $120k purchase puts the hood back on. #4 Launch The Bull (5-2) ran well off a layoff versus similar local foes last time, and he was less than a length behind The Whammer at Golden Gate last year. #6 Unbridled Papillon (6-1) ran into Rail Trip in long ago bow. Sports a pair of solid local drills for this.

Del Mar Race 5 (Clm-12.5/2L, f&m 3up, 6.5f) #3 Cinnamon Dove (7-2) is back in for a tag and broke maiden in synthetic sprint. Canani won a pair on Sunday, and he is an impressive 55% with the sprint-route-sprint maneuver. Three furlong bullet and aggressive rider should lead to prominent throughout trip. #8 Wada Falls (3-1) rallied from a bad start to finish 5th of 11 last time. Dons the hood and is capable of showing speed. Gomez hops aboard the Mullins contender.

Del Mar Race 6 (Mcl-32k, 2yo, 6f) #12 Buyer’s Remorse (5-2) earned best last race speed rating in even 4th at 4-1 in local $50k bow. Goes inside to outside and should make presence felt throughout. #2 Ranger Heartley (6-1) was nabbed out of his last by Sadler and can go better. #7 Ur Turn Dubai (4-1) drops, removes the hood, and attracts leading rider Rosario. #11 Dust In Your Face (8-1) sports a promising win early pedigree, and Mitchell is 21% debut maiden claiming. Hustling apprentice is 25% with this barn.

Del Mar Race 7 (OC-25/1x, CA-bred 3up, 8T) I am going to follow David Flores in this race. He rode #3 De Car Guy (12-1) and #4 The Uusual Q. T. (5-2) last time, but he abandons both for #6 Adam Suances (3-1). The latter finished a good 2nd at this course/distance last time, and show finisher Suit Yourself came back to score. A pair of turf works since last. #2 Renegade Storm (8-1) had done nothing wrong in a pair of turf starts. Barn 23% with this type of returnee and Bejarano sticks.

Del Mar Race 8 (Generous Portion, CA-bred 2yo fil, 6f) #1 Camille C (8-1) split an eight horse graded field last time. Reunites with winning pilot Bejarano. Smokin’ four furlong bullet for this. #6 Unbridled Meeting (5-2) sports best overall pace figs and might run other speed into the ground. Reunites with winning pilot Rosario. #8 Whispering Hush (5-1) unleashed a powerful rally to land the show after blowing the break in her local bow. Could graduate in the stakes ranks with a clean start.

Del Mar Race 9 (Mcl-25k, 3up, 6f) #4 Hotsie (7-2) earned an improved fig off a layoff here last time. He could easily move forward. #9 No Pun Intended (6-1) experienced a troubled beginning in 5th of 12 turf sprint debut in January. Strong local bullet for return. #8 Bonkersforbinkers (6-1) earned improved fig with blinkers on here last out.

This P6 is nearly impossible. I am going to sleep on it and try again in the morning…

Definitely a challenging Pick 6 on Wednesday. Sure to generate a nice payoff, and another carryover is a possibility.

Ok… now I’m pissed. I played a $216 ticket singling Mandella in the first… and was 4-for-4. I missed the feature with Camille C as you noted above. I just thought there was too much speed and she would get outrun or outclosed. I then pull the 17-1 in the last… to miss the $729,000 pick 6 by one horse. Since I was 2 deep in the feature… I did get the 5/6 twice which was a nice $1,800…

Tough beat Markus. Yeah, Camille C faced the highly regarded Mi Sueno last time, and there was no such rival today. Speed was strong and she took advantage of inside post and track profile. Nice call in the finale and a great piece of handicapping.
