Santa Anita Race 3 (Mcl-32k, 3yo fil, 5f) Wide open maiden claiming sprint to kick off the carryover festivities. #10 Stormy Linda (4-1) is a $45k Keeneland sales grad with a productive and profitable jockey-trainer team in her corner. Nice gate move on Feb 17th. #9 Warrens Royal Lady (9-2) has the experience edge but has yet to find a running style. Maybe her new jock can figure her out. #6 Hot Nurse (12-1) and #8 Massive Reaction (9-2) have shown some morning ability, and we shall see if that translates to afternoon results.
Santa Anita Race 4 (Clm-40k, f&m 4up, 6.5T) #3 Alpine Yodel (5-1) has that good route speed that works so well down the dip. Back in for a tag and could sit right stalking trip. #5 Royal Taat (5-2) is out of the turf stakes ranks. She used to win races and will be finishing fast. #2 Stash (3-1) exits sharp synthetic sprint wire job, and magic Mike has her now. Expect aggressive handling under Tyler Baze. Speedy miss on the board in 3 of 4 turf sprint starts. #6 Carnival Queen is 1 for 19 on turf, and #7 Dash Dot Dash is winless in 8 turf tries, so I’ll try to beat that duo on the win end.
Santa Anita Race 5 (MSW, 3yo fil, 6f) #6 Saltendipity (3-1) landed place in both outings but ran better in bow. Might be best with a target to chase. #8 Rebecca (5-2) is working like she means business for her bow for a profitable debut special weight outfit.
Santa Anita Race 6 (Alw-1x, 3yo, 8T) #2 Raging Wit (5-2) looms the class play in here. Was run off his feet by Sidney’s Candy last time. Faced quality stakes foes in both turf outings, and he made a move and flattened out each time. Expect Gomez to bide his time in this spot. #3 Majestic Afleet (3-1) finished a troubled 4th in lone turf try over the downhill course. Attracts solid turf jock and worked well the other day. The rail post has been poison (1 for 47) at a flat mile on the grass, and morning line fav Line of David will break from the hedge today. Donned the hood and stole latest, and I am expecting him to get some pace pressure today.
Santa Anita Race 7 (Alw-1x, 3yo, 6.5f) #7 Quiet Invader (6-1) made a middle move before getting trounced by Sidney’s Candy last time. I liked him that day, along with Raging Wit (see 6th race), and maybe one or both can make amends today. Probably stalks a fast pace today. #5 Domonation (7-2) is best as a late running sprinter, and he gets plenty of heat in the paper race. Has a touch of class as he faced stakes foes in last three. It is usually a good sign when a returnee pops up with a career top in his 3yo bow, and such was the case with #4 Lions Story (9-2). Figures to stalk the pace for top connections. #2 Hurricane Ike (9-2) fired big shots in both non-graded outings. Another contender in a competitive affair.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Mcl-32k, 3yo fil, 5f) An above par pace seems likely in the finale. #5 Sweet Patricia (3-1) went to the lead in Del Mar bow, but pace was not super quick, and I am looking for a stalking trip in her return for a razor sharp layoff/2nd timer barn. Took some action in aforementioned bow, and winner came back to score. Not much to topple. In a tough sequence, I will single her on both tickets and take my chances.
