Del Mar Pick 6 – August 22

Saturday (8-21-10) Del Mar Recap

Polytrack played fair. Turf favored stalkers and closers.

Rafael Bejarano and Victor Espinoza both pulled off the hat trick. Patrick Valenzuela booted home a pair.

Gem of consistency Evening Jewel made it three straight Graded turf Stakes wins with a 1/2 length victory over Harmonious in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. Her tactical speed always puts her in a winning position and once again made all the difference along with ground saved.

On the ticket front I tabbed three Primary (Indian Winter, Saint Isabelle, Evening Jewel) and two Secondary (Charm The Crowd, Rising Honour) winners.

Wednesday (8-18-10) Del Mar Recap

Horses within striking range fared best on both surfaces.

Joel Rosario and Mike Smith both booted home a pair.

California Flag won the Green Flash Handicap but did not go to the front as expected. He stalked, pounced, and won by a hard fought nose over Quick Enough and My Summer Slew.

I nailed the first five but could not seal the pick six deal on Wednesday. For the record, I tabbed four Primary (Full On, Cee’s Pryme, California Flag, Fund Raiser) and one Secondary (Winning Desire) winner.

Sunday (8-15-10) Del Mar Recap

Both surfaces seemed to play fair.

Hat trick for Joel Rosario. Doug O’Neill and Jenine Sahadi both saddled two winners on the day.

Wasted Tears (8th race) controlled the pace and just held off a game Lilly Fa Pootz in the Grade 2 John C Mabee for filly and mare turf routers. The consistent Gotta Have Her was another 1/2 length back in 3rd.

On the ticket front I ended up with three Primary (Galleta Monstruo, Spaniard, Wasted Tears) and one Secondary (Genio) winner on Sunday. For the record, I landed the place with a pair of Primary contenders in the other two legs. The dreaded 4 of 6 with a pair of 2nds – yuck!
