Jarrod Horak’s Del Mar Pick 6 analysis – Sunday, August 29, 2009

Del Mar Race 5 (Clm-50k, 3yo, 8T) #10 Rainbow Goose (5-1) reunites with Rosario, who rode him to a rallying place finish in June. Drops and might revert to patient tactics. #7 Del Conte (3-1) drops and comes in fresh for Baffert. Gomez hops aboard the prominent throughout threat. #6 Dream Now (7-2) drops 2nd off the shelf for Bejarano/Canani. #9 Dixie Passion (6-1) ran well in both turf sprint starts.

Del Mar Race 6 (Clm-40k, 4up, 8f) #5 Gandolf (5-1) looked good scoring off the O’Neill claim in a local extended sprint. Stretches back out and might make it two straight. #9 Headache (7-2) drops and stretches back out 2nd off the claim. #2 Sensational Score (8-1) was nabbed out of his last by O’Neill, and the consistent closer will be finishing under Santiago Reyes, who is 24% with this barn. #3 Pointing Star (6-1) drops and is working well for return. #7 Surf Town (4-1) rated showed rating ability last time. Early/pressing threat 3rd off the shelf.

Del Mar Race 7 (MSW, CA-bred 2yo, 5.5f) #6 Twenty Hawks (4-1) finished an even 4th in local bow, and show finisher came back to score. Barn a profitable 22% with 2nd timers, and Rosario hops aboard. I am going to take a stand in this race because I do not have a strong opinion about the others. #4 Runaway Bandido (5-2) ran well 1st time out, but barn is 0-31 with 2nd timers.

Spring House in the Sunset

Spring House in the Sunset

Del Mar Race 8 (Grade 2 Del Mar Hcp, 3up, 11T) #3 Sir Dave (12-1) rates a look at a price. He hit the board in both turf marathon stakes tries, including runner-up finish behind today’s fav Spring House in May. Attracts leading rider and can surprise 2nd off the shelf. #7 Obrigado (6-1) has run well here in the past and won a graded marathon in June. Had no shot in paceless event last time. Rosario abandons for my top but Bejarano is an ample sub. Nothing against #8 Spring House (5-2), but he looms an underlay in a competitive event.

Del Mar Race 9 (Clm-32k, 3yo fil, 6f) #12 Steam Iron (5-1) likes it here and is up the ladder after stalk and pounce tally at this course/distance last time. #6 Martini Mixer (7-2) was DQ’d from place in same race my top exits, and Carava has her now. Gomez hops aboard the stalking threat. #10 Ashee (6-1) drops and retains leading rider. Best at this distance.

Del Mar Race 10 (OC-25/1x, CA-bred 3up, 6.5f) #9 The Bat Signal (6-1) was re-claimed out of his last by Kruljac. Had 3-race win streak snapped in a show finish here last out. Broke maiden here last year. #4 Steady Demand (6-1) owns fine early/pressing speed, and Mullins is 40% 1st off the claim.
