Four wire jobs (3 on Polytrack) and PVal was aboard for two of those.

Rafael Bejarano, Victor Espinoza, and Patrick Valenzuela each rode two winners on the afternoon.

On the ticket front I tabbed four Primary (Spanish Bunny, Light of a Star, Courtside, Gnarly Dude) and one Secondary (Price) winner. I needed feature race favorite Separate Forest to nail the pick six but she set the pace and weakened to 3rd.

Champ Pegasus burst through the pack to smartly take the 71st running of the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap for marathon turfers. There was not much behind him so he’ll need to keep improving to beat future rivals.

On the ticket front I tabbed three Primary (Imco Spirit, Delahoosee, Champ Pegasus) and two Secondary (Scofield Barracks, Morganouska) winners. I was necked in the race I missed.

Five wire jobs on the afternoon including two on the weeds.

Five wins on the day for Joel Rosario. Hat trick for trainer Bob Baffert included both Grade 1 races.

Enriched (4th race) went all the way to win the Grade 2 Del Mar Mile on the turf under Joel Rosario.

Richard’s Kid (8th race) rallied from off the pace to defend his title in the Grade 1 Pacific Classic. Mike Smith booted home the Baffert trainee.

El Brujo (10th race) was aggressively handled by Joel Rosario and had enough in the tank to hold off Crown of Thorns in the seven furlong Grade 1 Pat O’Brien.

On the ticket front I tabbed three Primary (Where’s The Remote, Richard’s Kid, El Brujo) and one Secondary (Pleasing Sunrise) winner. I had a pair of Primary contenders land the place in the two races I missed.

Sunday’s pick six from Del Mar includes the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap for 3-year-olds and up traveling eleven furlongs on the turf course. Morning line favorite Champ Pegasus was beaten a length in a weak renewal of the Grade 3 Sunset but this race did not come up strong and the lightly raced Mandella runner attracts Rosario and should sit a great tactical trip.

Degree of Difficulty: Moderate. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Sunday pick six from Del Mar rates a 5.5.

Possible Singles: Daylight Storm (7th race), Champ Pegasus (8th race)

Polytrack played fair. Turf favored stalkers and closers.

Rafael Bejarano and Victor Espinoza both pulled off the hat trick. Patrick Valenzuela booted home a pair.

Gem of consistency Evening Jewel made it three straight Graded turf Stakes wins with a 1/2 length victory over Harmonious in the Grade 1 Del Mar Oaks. Her tactical speed always puts her in a winning position and once again made all the difference along with ground saved.

On the ticket front I tabbed three Primary (Indian Winter, Saint Isabelle, Evening Jewel) and two Secondary (Charm The Crowd, Rising Honour) winners.
