Hollywood Park Recap – Pick 6 Carryover

The competitive 10-race Memorial Day card produced plenty of upsets and there is a pick six carryover of $150,594 into the June 4 Friday night program. I will be covering the carryover with analysis and tickets right here at pick6blog.com.

Monday (5-31-10) Hollywood Park Recap

Both surfaces seemed to play fair.

Joe Talamo and Joel Rosario (turf) both booted home a pair.

J P’s Gusto stalked and pounced his way to a facile tally in the Willard Proctor Memorial for juvenile sprinters. Heavy favorite Belleofthebridle was clearly second best in a solid effort.  The winner was bred by WinStar Farm.

Evening Jewel got loose on an uncontested lead and was all out to hold off my top Cozi Rosie in the Grade 2 Honeymoon Handicap for 3-year-old fillies. The James Cassidy trainee completed her grassy nine furlong journey in 1:48.87 and paid $3.80 to win. The runner-up ran too good to lose under Mike Smith, who sensed the tepid early pace and got his charge in a contending spot earlier than expected.

Mr Gruff almost stole the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile but the Ron Ellis trainee weakened to 3rd in the late going as Karelian and eventual winner Victor’s Cry swept by in a thrilling finish. My top Gallant Son sat a perfect trip as expected and ended up an even 4th. The winner paid $44.40 under Corey Nakatani and helped produce the aforementioned carryover pool.
