Hollywood Park Today – June 13

I got a bit sidetracked with carryovers from Belmont and Churchill this week. Time to catch up with Hollywood Park track trends…

Thursday (6-10-10) Hollywood Park Recap

Early-pressing types (2 wire jobs) best in Cushion Track sprints.  The two synthetic routes and both turf races were nabbed by patient types.

Tyler Baze booted home a pair.

I covered the Thursday carryover right here on the blog and got off to a bad start after 0-fer US Buenos Dias rallied for the win in the 3rd. My analyzed contenders nabbed the final five legs with three Primary and a pair of Secondary contenders getting the job done.

Friday (6-11-10) Hollywood Park Recap

Both surfaces seemed to play fair.

Victor Espinoza and David Flores both booted home a pair.

I fancied Lazered in the grassy 3rd. She sat a nice trip but flattened out late in her first start vs. winners. Not a bad effort and I would be willing to play her back under the right circumstances.

Since I am on the East Coast and they were running late Friday night, I did not become aware of the carryover until too late. I covered the Churchill carryover on Foster Day instead.

Saturday (6-12-10) Hollywood Park Recap

Early-pressing types were strong in Cushion Track sprints for much of the day but the final two sprints were captured by patient types. Edge to stalkers/closers on turf.

Mike Smith booted home a pair.

Free Flying Soul returned to preferred synthetic footing and was a smart stalk/pounce winner in the 14th running of the Desert Stormer Handicap.

Rail Trip looked much the best on paper and delivered the goods in the Grade 2 Californian Stakes. The Ron Ellis trainee has easily captured both of his 2010 starts under Bejarano and appears poised to defend his Gold Cup crown.

I thought there was a good chance of a carryover at Churchill into Sunday but no such luck as the difficult Saturday sequence was hit to the tune of $209,853.60.

Sunday (6-13-10) Hollywood Park Preview

A ten race card is on tap for Sunday and all eyes will be glued to Zenyatta as she attempts to run her streak to seventeen wins from as may starts in the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap. The 129 pound heavyweight could have her hands full with talented mare St Trinians. The Vanity is my Horse Racing Nation Play of the Day. Sunny Skies are expected with a high temperature of 69.

Monmouth Park

For those interested in Monmouth Park, my MySpace free play is the Open Mind Handicap and my Today’s Racing Digest Play of the Day is the Candy Eclair Stakes.

I am also posting weekly Monmouth Park horses to watch/track bias reports on Horse Racing Nation…
