Oak Tree Update: Sept 30th
Opening race of the ‘09 Oak Tree @ Santa Anita meet went to Scottish Diamond ($4.20). Michael Baze booted home the prominent throughout winner for Jeff Mullins.
Down the dip for the 2nd race, and Gandolf ($16.40) was a nice overlay for Rosario/O’Neill.
Killer Bear ($8.80) was up by a neck in the 3rd for Blanc/Knapp.
Pick 6 began in the 4th, and I started out with a place finish behind wire job winner Icemancometh ($7.40). Mike Smith was up for John Sadler., and hats off to the jock for stealing this ten furlong grass event.
Nosed out of the 5th. Final Journey ($16.80) gave Rosario a riding double, and Marty Jones was the winning conditioner.
Oh boy. Went five deep (4 after scratches), and could not crack the top three. Summer Movie ($27.80) was the upset winner under Michael Baze. Art Sherman was the winning trainer. Has that carryover vibe!
Emmy Darling ($6) brought some sanity back to the proceedings, but I did not have her. Not a great start to say the least. Winning connections – Talamo/Sadler.
Bingo. Avoided a shutout when top California Flag ($5.20) went all the way in the Grade 3 Morvich Handicap. He will be a pace factor in the upcoming Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. Get Funky rebounded with a clear place finish, and I gave out the trifecta on Horse Racing Nation. Riding double for Talamo, and Brian Koriner saddled the winner.
Bombs away in the finale! Spartan Jet ($157.60) necked one of my players. Delgadillo rode the winner for Juan Lopez. I said there would be some carryovers, and here we go already…$87,781.
