Del Mar Pick 6 – August 13
Thursday (8-12-10) Del Mar Recap
A trio of six furlong wire jobs on Polytrack. Turf continues to favor stalkers and closers.
Martin Garcia and Joel Rosario both booted home a pair. Doug O’Neill saddled two winners on the day.
On the pick six ticket front, I tabbed two Primary (Serene Sophia, Swiss Tart) and one Secondary (Silent Soul) winner on Thursday.

Wednesday (8-11-10) Del Mar Recap
Both surfaces seemed to play fair.
Hat trick for Joel Rosario. John Sadler saddled two winners on the afternoon and Rosario rode both.
Goggles McCoy (7th race) was the controlling speed in the Real Good Deal Stakes and we still do not know how good he is after a comfortable wire job tally at seven panels on Polytrack. Russell Baze guided home the Steve Sherman trainee.
On the pick six ticket front, I managed three Primary (Stroppy, Contemplated, Goggles McCoy) and one Secondary (Mr. Gennaro) winner on Wednesday.

The marathon feature has an interesting price player in Teafatiller. The Bruce Jackson trainee exits a sharp Hollywood turf route wire job and should make his presence felt throughout.

Sunday (8-8-10) Del Mar Recap
Polytrack seemed to play fair. A wire job and a stalker made up the two turf route winners (rail at 14 feet).
Hat trick for Rafael Bejarano. Patrick Valenzuela booted home a pair.
A key scratch (River Chapel) changed the pace complexion in the Grade 2 Best Pal and PVal aboard J P’s Gusto took full advantage in a wire job tally from the inside post. Sway Away rallied to finish a clear second and should continue to progress. Western Mood was forced to chase the pace and held the show. He seems best as a late-runner.
On the pick six ticket front, I could only muster one Primary (Valley Cat) and one Secondary (J P’s Gusto) winner on Sunday…boo!

Saturday (8-7-10) Del Mar Recap
A pair of 5.5 furlong Polytrack sprint wire jobs but it was hardly a speed brigade on Saturday. Patient runners best on turf (rail at 14 feet).
Mike Smith and Patrick Valenzuela both booted home a pair. Mike Mitchell saddled two winners on the day.
Win machine Zenyatta did her thing again in the Grade 1 Clement L Hirsch. I wonder where she goes for her final BC Classic prep?
On the pick six ticket front, I got home a pair of Primary (Where’s The Remote, Zenyatta) and two Secondary (Miss Peanut, Low Gear Power) winners on Saturday.

Friday (8-6-10) Del Mar Recap
Speed was definitely not king on Friday as there were no wire jobs on Polytrack or turf.
Four-bagger for Rafael Bejarano.
Wickedly Perfect (7th race) sat the right tactical trip and had enough left to hold off A Z Warrior and Izshelegal in the Grade 3 Sorrento Stakes for juvenile fillies. Bejarano guided home the winner for Doug O’Neill.
On the pick six ticket front, I tabbed two Primary (Melbisha, Quintons Flash) and a pair of Secondary (Dancing Lauren, Wickedly Perfect) winners on Friday.

Rafael Bejarano, Joel Rosario, and Joe Talamo each booted home a pair.
Bench Points (7th race) looked good rallying along the inside to easily capture the Graduation Stakes. The CA-bred juvenile has some talent for Tim Yakteen.

Sunday (8-1-10) Del Mar Recap
Four wire jobs on Polytrack included a trio at six furlongs. Lone turf route carded was nabbed by a patient type.
Hat trick for Joel Rosario. Victor Espinoza booted home a pair. Doug O’Neill saddled two winners on the day and Rosario rode both.
Cost of Freedom (8th race) blew the break and sharp 3-year-old Smiling Tiger took full advantage in a G1 Bing Crosby Stakes wire job tally. Scenic Blast chased throughout and was clearly second best. E Z’s Gentleman rounded out the top three.
On the ticket front, I ended up with four winners on Sunday. I got a pair each on the suggested Primary (Subsidized, Dazzling Razz) and Secondary (Victory Dash, Smiling Tiger) tickets.

Del Mar Pick 6 – Aug 1
Saturday (7-31-10) Del Mar Recap
Patient types won the bulk of the Polytrack races on Saturday. A wire job and a pair of stalkers made up the three turf route winners.
Joe Talamo booted home a pair.Victor Espinoza and Eric Kruljac teamed up for two wins on the day.
La Nez (6th race) rallied in the stretch to beat Thisoneforyou by a 1/2 length in the Fleet Treat Stakes. Victor Espinoza rode the winner for Eric Kruljac.
Dakota Phone (8th race) went last-to-first and bested fellow late-runner Battle of Hastings in the Grade 2 San Diego. Enriched set the pace and held the show in a fine quick turnaround effort for PVal/O’Neill.
Another conso…not quite. I did have five winners but a pair on the Secondary tickets netted me a 4 of 6er on July 31. I ended up with three Primary (La Nez, Faisca, and Seductionist) and two Secondary (Dakota Phone, Areutrue) winners.

Friday (7-30-10) Del Mar Recap
Polytrack surface yielded four more wire jobs (3 sprints). Lone turf sprint carded was taken in wire job fashion, and a patient runner nabbed the turf route.
Hat trick for Joe Talamo. Joel Rosario booted home a pair, and PVal found the winners’ circle and cost me the pick six…boo!
Temple City (7th race) looked like the lone speed on paper, and it played out that way in real life as he was never threatened in the Grade 3 Cougar II for Polytrack marathon runners. Unusual Suspect edged slight favorite Richard’s Kid for the place. The Graded hero was one of three winners on the day for trainer Carla Gaines.
Would you believe another conso? Friday marked the 3rd day in a row and the 5th time that I nailed 5 of out 6 through the first eight days of the Del Mar meet. I tabbed five Primary (Missilette, Dee Dee’s Legacy, Cee’s Pryme, Temple City, and No Stadium). Missed the brass ring by a 1/2 length as Warren’s Jitterbug was along to snatch the win away from my 7-1 top Ashee.
