Santa Anita Pick 6 – Dec 26th
Saturday’s opening day pick six from Santa Anita Park includes a trio of graded races. The weather is expected to be mostly cloudy with highs in the upper 60’s. My suggested tickets can be found at the bottom of this post following analysis.
Pick 6 blog has been growing in popularity on a daily basis, and I would like to thank everyone for making this site a success. I will continue to feature the Southern California Pick 6, along with select carryovers from across the country.
Degree of Difficulty: Competitive. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Saturday pick six from Santa Anita rates an 8.
Possible Singles: Searchforthetruth (5th race), Wolf Tail (6th race), The Usual Q. T. (7th race)

Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Saturday, December 26, 2009
Santa Anita Race 5 (Clm-40k, 3up, 6.5T) #3 Searchforthetruth (4-1) ran well when last seen at this course/distance in Oct. Has high % connections in his corner. #4 High Standards (6-1) looms the target in a race that came up light on pace. #5 Crossing the Line (3-1) had to need Hollywood return, and the lightly raced 7yo win type should move forward under Gomez.
Santa Anita Race 6 (Cal Breeders’ Champion, 2yo, 8.5f) #5 Wolf Tail (9-2) earned triple digit late pace fig in latest extended sprint stakes outing. Rosario sticks, and he might enjoy a route of ground. #4 Caracortado (9-5) has captured all three sprint starts, and he’s a pace factor at the very least in first route attempt. #8 La Nez (3-1) switches surfaces and sports a bullet work. The stakes winning filly can compete here.
Santa Anita Race 7 (Grade 3 Sir Beaufort, 3yo, 8T) #5 Massone (9-2) was beaten two lengths by today’s fav last time, and he earned his best career speed rating that day. Fresh colt reunites with Gomez and could break through with a graded win. #6 The Usual Q. T. (4-5) goes for six straight, and he’s 3 for 3 at a flat mile and 2 for 2 over the local weeds.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Grade 1 La Brea, 3yo fil, 7f) #5 Evita Argentina (9-2) has won a pair of graded extended sprints overt synthetic ground this year. Got no pace help in productive BC Filly & Mare Sprint last time, but that should not be a problem today as there are several early-pressing types signed on. #4 Amazed By Grace (6-1) has won 5 straight on dirt. Tries 7f and synthetic for the 1st time. Big local drill under Gomez on Dec 21st. #10 Gabby’s Golden Gal (4-1) is a grade one winner training well for return. Broke maiden here, and 7f seems right. #2 Alice’s Smart (10-1) is 2 for 2 over synthetic ground, and she gets a class test for her new barn. Worth a longshot look.
Santa Anita Race 9 (Grade 1 Malibu, 3yo, 7f) $2.2 million purchase #2 Kinsella (12-1) could end up being a good one. He’s 2 for 4 and was a solid 3rd in stakes debut last time. Tries synthetic for Pletcher, and Gomez had options but ended up here. Has been training here since early Nov. #1 Misremembered (4-1) is the one to beat for Baffert. 2-time graded winner just missed in the Grade 2 Clark last time. Baffert also has #5 Mythical Power (8-1), and he makes his 1st start in 7+ months. Rosario hops aboard.
Santa Anita Race 10 (MSW, 2yo, 6.5f) #11 Imperial Pride (10-1) is out of a 2% debut MSW barn, but he is out of a win early sire and uncorked a strong 5f gate bullet on Dec 21st. Kent D/Hess used to do business together. #3 Concord Point (4-1) has shown speed in morning drills for Baffert, and Garcia is 42% with this outfit. #1 Ziggy’s Stardust (7-2) took action and finished an even 4th in debut. Barn 26% with 2nd timers, and look for him to stretch out in near future.
