Santa Anita Pick 6 – Feb 21st
Sunday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park features the Grade 2 San Luis Obispo for 4yo’s and up traveling twelve furlongs on the turf course. Sudden War looms the target, and if he falters look for stalking types Dynamic Range and Bourbon Bay to pick up the pieces. There is a 50% chance of PM showers with a high temperature of 65. My suggested tickets can be found at the bottom of this post following analysis.
Pick 6 blog has been growing in popularity on a daily basis, and I would like to thank everyone for making this site a success. I will continue to feature the Southern California Pick 6, along with select carryovers from across the country.
Degree of Difficulty: Moderate. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Sunday pick six from Santa Anita rates a 6.5.
Possible Singles: Times Gone By (5th race), Dominant Currency (6th race), Bourbon Bay (8th race)
Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Sunday, February 21, 2010
Santa Anita Race 4 (Clm-8k, f&m 4up, 5.5f) #6 I Swear (7-2) was necked at 6.5f last time (blinkers on). Attracts Espinoza and gets pace to chase. #9 Suziqcutie (5-2) exits stalk and pounce win at this course/distance, and place finisher returned to score. #3 Msty Aly (6-1) returns to synthetic and is a pressing threat under her fav pilot Valdez.
Santa Anita Race 5 (OC-62.5/2x, 4up, 8T) #2 Times Gone By (5-2) hails from the recently hot Mandella barn, and the $1.9 million purchase is best on turf. Capable of firing a fresh shot. #6 Glowing Praise (6-1) is an overseas transplant now under the care of Harty, and Bejarano takes the call. Beat sixteen rivals to the wire when last seen at this distance (Sept ’09). #3 I’ll Show Them (10-1) graduated in a flat mile turf event, and he dueled and finished 4th (G2 La Jolla) in his only other turf start. Grass bullet for this.
Santa Anita Race 6 (MSW, 3yo fil, 6.5f) #10 Dominant Currency (4-1) was up for place in 5.5f bow. Added furlong helps, and she’s a stretch threat for Gomez/Harty. Barn much better with 2nd timers as well. #1 Vision In Gold (3-1) is a $360k Keeneland sales grad with a 3f bullet. Ellis a profitable 21% debut special weight. #2 Brazilian Charm (6-1) rallied for show in local bow. Walsh 25% with new additions, and Bejarano ends up here.
Santa Anita Race 7 (Clm-25/2L, f&m 4up, 6.5f) #1 Yodelady O (4-1) earned an above par speed rating off the West claim last out. Bejarano sticks with the versatile sort. #7 Stash (5-2) drops, and Gomez had options but decided to stay here. Prominent throughout.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Grade 2 San Luis Obispo, 4up, 12T) #3 Bourbon Bay (4-1) always threatened to be a nice horse but never quite delivered the goods…until last time. Drysdale gave twelve furlongs a whirl, and the gelded son of Sligo Bay responded with a resounding optional claiming tally. Reunites with Bejarano and returns to the graded ranks on top of his game. Stalking trip likely. #8 Sudden War (3-1) is 2 for 3 at this distance, and he got a nice nine furlong local prep to cap his 2009 season. McPeek trainee might get brave if able to shake loose early. #1 Dynamic Range (5-2) ran into his talented stablemate Loup Breton last time. Consistent sort is 1 for 1 at this distance, but the logical contender might get overbet on the win end.
Santa Anita Race 9 (MSW, CA-bred 3yo, 6.5f) #9 My Boy Walsh (4-1) took a hint of action (9-1) but never had a chance to show anything in a troubled debut journey. Strong bullet for this and could show much more. #6 Excess Power (6-1) is out of 17% debut sire In Excess, and Rosario climbs aboard the O’Neill firster. #10 Nofty (15-1) is out of a profitable 11% debut MSW barn, and he is working well enough for this. Could surprise under hustling apprentice.
