Santa Anita Pick 6 – Feb 28th

Sunday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes the Crystal Water Handicap for state bred or sired 4yo’s and up traveling a flat mile on the turf. Rail setting is 15 feet, and there is plenty of pace in the paper race. Sunny skies are expected with a high temperature of 68. My suggested tickets can be found at the bottom of this post following analysis.

Pick 6 blog has been growing in popularity on a daily basis, and I would like to thank everyone for making this site a success. I will continue to feature the Southern California Pick 6, along with select carryovers from across the country.

Degree of Difficulty: Moderate. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Sunday pick six from Santa Anita rates a 5.5.

Possible Singles: Swiss Currency (5th race), You Can Dream (6th race), Fund Raiser (7th race)

Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Sunday, February 28, 2010

Santa Anita Race 4 (MSW, 4up, 6.5f) #5 Sweet Maker (5-1) finished a solid 3rd in synthetic sprint bow, and place finisher came back to score. Better is expected 2nd time out. #6 Sensational News (6-1) is a $500k Keeneland sales grad with a pair of bullets. Gomez hops aboard the promising Mandella firster.

Santa Anita Race 5 (Mcl-40k, CA-bred 3yo, 8f) #6 Swiss Currency (3-1) returns for a 26% layoff barn and could flash speed under Pedroza. Reportedly a first time gelding.  #5 Minister D’oro (7-2) rallied for show in 6.5f bow. Bred to route and could move forward for Gomez/Bell. #4 Diplo (5-2) ran out of ground in local extended sprint off the shelf last time. Added real estate could be just what the doctor ordered.

Santa Anita Race 6 (Clm-32k, 4yo fil, 6.5f) #1 You Can Dream (4-1) is sharp and owns fine early-pressing speed. New low profile trainer 38% first off the claim (8-race sample), and Espinoza strings along. #3 Victory Dancer (4-1) is now under the care of recently hot conditioner Bill Spawr. Hat trick within reach. #5 Sky Marni (7-2) nosed my top last time. Hails from a hot barn and will be finishing.

Santa Anita Race 7 (OC-40/1x, f&m 4up, 8.5f) #5 Fund Raiser (5-2) is a gem of consistency for Baffert. Ran well in a local route last time, and a stalking trip seems likely. #3 Madel (6-1) graduated down the dip last time, and she should get a route of ground based on late pace figs. #8 Haka (3-1) is a stakes placed filly returning for a 21% layoff barn. Bejarano sticks.

Santa Anita Race 8 (Crystal Water Hcp, CA-bred 4up, 8T) Five of the eight entrants like to run or or near the lead, so I’ll look for a patient type to get the job done. #3 Kalookan Storm (15-1) got no pace help on synthetic ground last time, but today should be a different story from a race shape perspective. He’s 2 for 2 over the local weeds, and all four turf wins at this distance. Talamo hops aboard the price player. #4 Swift Winds (12-1) landed place in needed downhill comeback. Barn 24% 2nd off the shelf, and he’s an odds beating stretch threat.

Santa Anita Race 9 (Mcl-32k, 3yo, 5.5f) #10 Chimu (4-1) broke slow, chased, and weakened in local bow. Dons the hood and Bejarano strings along. Tab for improvement. #11 Cape Finisterre (5-2) drops to lowest level and is an obvious early-pressing threat.
