Sunday’s pick six from Santa Anita Park includes the Grade 2 El Encino for 4yo fillies traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the synthetic track. Stardom Bound is 4 for 4 here, but she has not been the same since her sensational juvenile season. Dream Empress is another looking to rediscover the past. There is a 30% chance of PM showers with a high temperature of 67. My suggested tickets can be found at the bottom of this post following analysis.
Pick 6 blog has been growing in popularity on a daily basis, and I would like to thank everyone for making this site a success. I will continue to feature the Southern California Pick 6, along with select carryovers from across the country.
Degree of Difficulty: Competitive. On a scale of 1 to 10, the Sunday pick six from Santa Anita rates a 7.
Possible Singles: Ultra Awesome (4th race), Spirit Seeker (8th race), You Know I Wancha (9th race)

Jarrod Horak’s Santa Anita Pick 6 analysis – Sunday, January 17, 2010
Santa Anita Race 4 (Clm-16k, 4yo fil, 5.5f) #5 Ultra Awesome (5-2) had 3-race win streak snapped at Hollywood last time. Bejarano strings along, and she’s a prominent throughout threat for new barn. #1 You Can Dream (8-5) drops and turns back for O’Neill. Espinoza hops aboard the early-pressing threat.
Santa Anita Race 5 (MSW, 4up, 6.5f) #1 Gold Aly (8-1) earned quality speed rating when last seen in ’08. Working with a purpose for new barn (Mullins). #8 Off The Wall (2-1) was a clear 2nd behind Zensational in his Feb. bow. Smith/Headley 30% together, and he’s firing bullets for return. #3 Solar Rocket (3-1) is a Baffert 2nd timer, and he looms the target under Martin Garcia. #7 Pious David (5-2) was headed off the shelf here last out. Stalking trip anticipated.
Santa Anita Race 6 (Clm-32k, 4up, 6.5T) #2 Craig’s Storm (8-1) has run well in all three turf outings. Fresh gelding typically fires and retains Gomez. Late threat. #3 Noblety (5-2) is 2 for 2 down the dip and goes for a turf sprint hat trick today. First run trip again. #11 Awesome Jared (20-1) is a competent NoCal turf router. Cuts back and will be finishing.
Santa Anita Race 7 (OC-80/1x, CA-bred 3yo, 6.5f) #3 High Success (4-1) was a professional stalking winner at this course/distance last time. O’Neill trainee projects another great trip today. Barn also has #6 Wolf Tail (7-2), and he turns back 2nd off the shelf. Rosario stricks. #2 A Plus Topper (3-1) looked good in wire job debut across town. Sports the best pace figs and is a viable speed threat in first start versus winners.
Santa Anita Race 8 (Grade 2 El Encino, 4yo fil, 8.5f) #11 Spirit Seeker (4-1) ran well off the shelf on the weeds last time. Has handled slop, fast dirt, and grass, and she’s been training on synthetic since Nov. Rosario sticks, and a stalking trip seems likely. Part of exacta in five straight. #9 Justwhistledixie (3-1) likes to win and fits from a class perspective, but can she handle synthetic? Gomez hops aboard the Mott trainee. #7 Stardom Bound (7-2) is 4 for 4 here, but she has to prove that she is back in form. I’ll try to beat the probable underlay.
Santa Anita Race 9 (Mcl-32k, 3yo fil, 7f) #2 You Know I Wancha (2-1) drops to lowest level for O’Neill, and she’s probably better than this group. #3 Donia (5-1) split a 12-horse field as the fav in across town bow. Sports a bullet for this, and Baffert is 22% with 2nd timers.
