Santa Anita Recap – Feb 10th
Malibu Canyon ($7.40) was best by a neck in the Wednesday opener. Tyler Baze booted home the Carla Gaines trainee. Heavy fav Trail Mix had a bad start and just missed. He was claimed by Michael Pender.
Lucy Got Lucky ($3.80) sat the right trip behind honest fractions in easy maiden tally. Martin Pedroza guided home the Julio Canani trainee.
Off the turf for the opening leg of the pick six. The money showed on returnee All Man ($6.80), and he comfortably held off my top Spirit of Cochise. Two straight for Pedroza and Canani.
Four deep in the 4th was not nearly enough. Almost a giant upset as 97-1 Mat the Maiter’d just failed to hold off Megillah ($19). Julio Garcia booted home the Kruljac runner.
Scratch of Maroma left me with Life By R R in the 5th, and the latter settled for the show behind Kimmyv ($8.20). Martin Garcia rode the Baffert runner.
Top pick Lana’s Lovely ($3.40) easily wired the 6th for Rosario/La Croix.
My 2nd choice Cigar Man ($24.80) was along to nab the optional claiming feature for Rosario/Cerin.
Upset in the finale as Hi Ho Geronimo ($30) ran down Big Ticket single Crash Landing. Martin Garcia rode the winner for Mike Mitchell, and more than $77k carries into the Thursday pick six.
