Santa Anita Recap – Feb 5th
No surprise in the Friday opener as Guerrero Negro ($3.60) pulled off an easy wire job for Santiago Reyes/Paco Gonzalez.
A wire job double with A Royal Tizzy ($5.40) going all the way in the 2nd for Bejarano/Hess.
Pick 6 time, and Budget Ticket single Lady Alex ($4) coasted home under Bejarano. John Sadler was the winning conditioner.
Top pick Big Jay settled for the place in the 4th behind sharp stalking winner Afleet Magic ($8.20) Talamo booted home the winner for Bob Hess Jr.
Top pick Bilo scratched, and my remaining contenders ran 3-4 as Get Off The Sugar ($34.20) held on for the wire job upset. Martin Garcia booted home the Jorge Alcala runner.
A 3-4-5 finish for my contenders in the 6th. Boulder Creek ($11.40) was the stalk and pounce winner for Victor Espinoza-Craig Dollase.
Extended sprint feature, and I was 1-2 with Mobilized ($9.60) running down Baffert chalk Total Bull. Another winner for Bejarano, and Gary Mandella saddled the son of Soul of the Matter.
Big Ticket single Delago had a troubled journey, and my 2nd choice Candy Coat ($11.80) picked up the slack. Amador rode the Sise trainee. Ended up with 3 wins, 2 2nds and a 3rd. No winning tickets, so more than $85k carries into the Saturday program.
