Santa Anita Recap – Jan 13th
Red Door Drive looked home free in the Wednesday opener, but Chantal Sutherland had other ideas aboard The Town Lady ($7.80). The Barry Abrams trainee was up by a head at the wire.
Acute Velocity ($6.80) was always traveling well in the 2nd, and the Neil French runner was a handy off the pace winner under Victor Espinoza. Canani fav Lucy Got Lucky was clearly 2nd best.
Pick 6 time, and not a great start as Paloma’s Flight ($14) necked my single Recess. The latter moved too soon under Tyler Baze. Hustling apprentice Santiago Reyes booted home the winner for Rafael Becerra.
Expected paesetter Justincredible stumbled at the start, and that left my contender Princess Suances on top, but she faded to 3rd in the lane. Pressing win type There Goes Gee Gee ($12.80) got the job done for Flores/O’Neill.
Budget Ticket single Bad Boy ($3.80) won as expected in the 5th. Flores booted home the 6.5f specialist for Julio Canani.
Ran 1-2 in the 6th with distance switching fav Lady Alex ($3.60) posting a one-length tally for Bejarano/Sadler.
Took half of the six-horse feature, and 2-1 Jeranimo (Blanc/Pender) smartly ran down Baffert fav Total Bull. My other contender Uncle Jeep was 3rd, and the Horse For Course is a player on the drop next time.
No pace in the grass finale, and my returning top Tizzy Retsina ($8) never looked back under Danny Sorenson. Thomas Bell saddled the winner, and my late charge netted 4 out of 6 with a 2nd and a 3rd.
