Santa Anita Recap – Jan 14th
Thursday’s opener looked like a 2-horse race on paper, and it turned out that way on the track as dropper Brave Justice ($7.20) bested fav Run Over You by a 1/2 length. Joe Talamo rode the winner for Gary Stute.
4-horse field in the 2nd, and even money fav Cozi Rosie (Mike Smith-John Sadler) did not disappoint. The anti-speed bias ay 8.5f continues as Sweet Hanni set the pace and weakened to 3rd.
No worries in the opening leg of the pick six as Budget Ticket single Just Heat ($7.20) cruised home under Talamo. Art Sherman was the winning conditioner.
Missed by a 1/2 length in the 4th as Gary Sherlock firster Scratchthemoon ($21.80) outfinished fav This Time Baby. Tyler Baze booted home the daughter of Benchmark.
Michael’s Rose controlled the tempo as expected, but she could not hang with Spring Style ($9.80) in the late going. Joel Rosario booted home the Ben Cecil trainee.
Two straight for Rosario as he guided Phoenician Star ($6.80) to a popular tally in the 6th. Kathy Walsh was the winning conditioner.
My 2nd choice Monzante ($4) rallied to get up by a nose in the grass feature. Gomez rode the winner for Mike Mitchell.
Top pick James Prior ($7.20) nabbed the finale for Santiago Reyes/Cerin. Got both singles home on the Budget Ticket, but ended up with a frustrating 4 of 6 with a 2nd and a 3rd.
