Santa Anita Recap – Jan 23rd

Compact 4-horse field to kick off Saturday program as Santa Anita Park is racing again. Victory Dancer ($5) went last to first at 6.5f for Rosario/Peter Miller.

Kimmyv ($4.40) was a popular stalk and pounce winner of the 2nd for the productive Martin Garcia/Baffert tandem.

3rd race was transferred to the Pro-Ride surface, and Art Currency ($5.20) was the stalking winner of the flat mile optional claiming affair. Rosario booted home the Mitchell trainee.

Pick 6 begins with an upset. The Women’s Diva ($26.20) got the job done under Michael Baze. Caesar Dominguez was the winning conditioner, and stalking types are performing well so far.

Another stalking surprise in the 5th as Suances De Espana ($28.60) headed my top Tallahsocean. That’s three for Rosario, and Vienna saddled the winner.

Leothelion ($3.60) was a popular stalk and pounce winner of compact 6th for Talamo/Puype.

Tough sequence continues with yet another stalking winner. Fantasy Free ($23.40) clicked in a wide open off the turf affair for Espinoza/Avila.

Dancing In Silks figured to be vulnerable in Dubai prep, and he finished an even 3rd behind upset winner Kinsale King ($20.20). Martin Garcia rode the winner for Carl O’Callaghan. My top Supreme Summit got going too late and seems to want a bit more ground.

Top pick Closing Steps ($10.20) got up by a nose in the finale to give Joel Rosario a four-bagger. John Sadler saddled the winning returnee.

Ended up with two wins and a trio of place finishes in the competitive sequence.
